Speaking of the premises... have you also noticed the addition of all the handicap parking spaces to our lot? We now have a total of seven for your added convenience as well as two "reserved" spots for our staff. New overhead fans have been installed on the front porch to help relieve the summer heat. Hope you all enjoy the needed comfort! You can now expand to the front for that cool one at the 19th hole! REMINDER -- Frequent Player Club memberships are still available for the balance of 2008 at the price of $30.00. That amount still allows you a Free Round when you renew or purchase the Frequent Player Club membership. For those of you joining golf leagues at Oak Hills and who might be interested in establishing a USGA handicap through our GHIN system, don't forget to see Cheryl or Frank to sign up. They will be happy to give you all the particulars regarding the cost and computer instructions for entry. This service is available to everyone. IMPORTANT NOTICE: June 10th and 11th Oak Hills Golf Club will be closed for maintenance. barbeque & golf... Oak Hills Unit 23 Homeowner's Association Annual BBQ and Golf Outing was held Sunday, June 1st, at Oak Hills Golf Club. The Homeowner's Association dues collected from unit #23 residents is used for various community projects; such as maintenance of the area wing walls, informative mailings, meetings and this one social event.
The golf portion of the day's event included thirty-six golfers participating in a "best ball" format. Members created their own foursomes or the golf committee placed people on teams. "The rules for the event were easy to follow," explained Homeowner Association member and golfer, Tom Hébert. "The most popular feature was the cold drink cart that circulated between holes and kept the participants hydrated." Prized were awarded for "closest-to-pin" on holes #4 and #15 and for "longest drive" on hole #5. Additionally, a random gift drawing was held at the event conclusion for those who stayed. Gifts included pro shop certificates, free rounds at Oak Hills, golf towels and golf balls. "This event was made possible because of the generosity of Oak Hills Golf Club's ownership, management and staff. We are very appreciative of this support," Mr. Hébert said. "Everyone agreed the events of the day were successful," he added, "and I was simply a helper. I was not in charge of the event. Officers of the Association were in charge." Special appreciation and thanks to Mr. Jim Ryan for his help and his organization of this event - and to the many others who played an important role in this event. Photos from this event have been pasted in our Photo Album. hall-of-fame winner...

Oak Hills Golf Club built and completed the back nine first (hole numbers 10-18). What you most likely did not know is the back nine opened to the public in 1980 as a nine-hole course. But that was only temporary. Golfers played the completed back nine, then numbered 1 thru 9, while construction continued on the other nine holes. When the second nine holes were ready for play Oak Hills Golf Club opened their beautiful, new 18-hole golf course to the public in 1981. The completed 18-hole course was numbered 1 to 18, with the first-to-open back nine then re-numbered 10 through 18, just as it is to this day. Tall pine forest and mature oaks framed the wide fairways of the new par 72 course, stretched on 6,935 yards. The course architect was Chuck Anthony, Sr. ladies farewell... We would like to bid a farewell to the ladies of Thursday's Ladies League who returned to their home league course, the Dunes. The ladies joined us here at Oak Hills Golf Club while the Dunes closed down near the end of 2006, due to reconstruction. We are happy to have had the opportunity to meet all these great gals. To all those who have left: on behalf of our staff and myself, we say thank you for the new friendships formed. We hope you will keep in touch and visit us whenever you'd like. After all, we have shared a unique camaraderie, which we hope will continue in years to come. May you all enjoy success in all your future endeavors. Good luck and God bless! 25th anniversary... It has come to my attention that golfer Bill Bernhardt had been playing golf at Oak Hills Golf Club for 25 years. He's had two aces: both on our 15th hole. His first hole-in-one was September 23, 2001 and his second was May 2, 2003. Happy 25th Anniversary to you, Bill! Also a member of our Frequent Player Club - Bill was one of the first members to joined in 1995. thanks for your help... Most good swings on well-struck iron shots produce a divot in the fairway (or tee box). The word "divot" actually refers to two different things: the top layer of turf that is sliced off and sent flying as your iron enters the ground; and the resulting scar, or patch of bare earth, that is left in the fairway. Repairing divots is an important duty of golfers who create them. According to the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, a repaired divot can speed up the healing process (meaning: the grass will cover over the scar in the fairway) by a couple weeks, as opposed to an unrepaired divot. For your own enjoyment and the enjoyment of your fellow golfers please take a few seconds to repair divots. And while you're at it, why not repair one more left by someone who doesn't care as much about the course as you do. We provide you with a bucket of a weed-free mixture, which is attached to all golf carts for filling in your divots. Simply scoop a bit in the scar and smooth it over with your foot. Recently I took a drive along the course and noticed numerous repaired divots that many of you attended too. Thank you for your help. We appreciate your support and effort. summer mini-camp...
